NEW YORK — According to a recent study from ABI Research, sixty six percent of
revenues earned from mobile handset accessories are generated in the
aftermarket. This percentage is only expected to grow with time,
following a market trend to move more and more accessories âout of the
boxâ and onto retailersâ shelves.
âMobile operators and mobile phone vendors see that the only return from
including a subsidized accessory included in the handset box is customer
satisfaction,â comments industry analyst Michael Morgan. âWhile that
isnât without some intangible value, on the retail shelf an accessory is
a high-margin product that will generate actual income.â
Because of that, aftermarket accessories will also show faster growth
rates than those included âin-box.â
The currently most popular aftermarket accessories are memory cards and
protective silicone carrying-cases or sleeves. Both result from the
popularity of smartphones: their multimedia capabilities often demand
extra memory capacity, and their high value encourages owners to take
better care of them. This latter trend has clearly been initiated and
driven by Appleâs iPhone.
Protection takes on even greater importance in some emerging markets,
where most owners intend to resell their phones when they upgrade. Other
regional factors in the accessories market are culturally determined,
says Morgan: âWhile the belt-clip style of handset âholsterâ, for
example, is popular in North American and Western European markets,
Asian consumers tend to prefer wrist- and neck-straps which provide
greater visibility for the phones of the fashion-conscious, at lower
cost.â
Fast-growing accessory groups include Bluetooth headsets and wired
headsets for music listening, while others such as add-on GPS receivers
are in decline as their functions are progressively moved into the
handset itself.
ABI Researchâs âMobile
Phone Accessoriesâ study (http://www.abiresearch.com/research/1003234)
focuses on key handset accessories and the market for these products,
including in-depth analysis for both in-box as well as aftermarket
handset accessories

State Journal, The, March, 2007 by Terry, Juliet A
CHARLESTON – The table games bill’s pathway to full passage looked like a game of legislative ping-pong March 7.
At press time for The State Journal, the Senate was poised to take one last look at House Bill 2718. It was scheduled to reconvene at 6 p.m. March 7.
“We’re just making sure that we are doing everything correctly in terms of procedure,” said Senate Judiciary Chairman Jeffrey Kessler, D-Marshall.
The House of Delegates had agreed to the Senate’s version of HB2718 but not without tweaking the bill further earlier in the day. That sent it back to the Senate once again.
According to procedure, the Senate had to take up the bill and then send it back to the House one more time before it could go to Gov

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-12 January 2009-CSR unveils BC5120 Bluetooth device(C)1994-2009 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
CSR (LSE:CSR), a provider of personal wireless technology, has launched BC5120, its latest Bluetooth device optimised for consumer electronics.
According to the company, BC5120, combined with BlueCore Session Manager (BCSM) software, provides a cost effective and easy to integrate solutions for digital TVs, hi-fis, DVD players, hand-held games consoles and other consumer products.
Typically, an application processor in a consumer electronics device is customised for a specific task and does not have enough on-chip resource to run additional Bluetooth host software. The BC5120 with BCSM software has been designed to solve this problem and offers a lower cost alternative to stand-alone Bluetooth chips. The software acts as a thin control layer to allow a main host processor to control the Bluetooth functions of the device with minimum resource implications on the host.
The BC5120 IC features an embedded RISC processor and CSR’s on-chip Kalimba Digital Signal Processor (DSP), which enables designers to increase the functionality and performance of their products by adding audio enhancement and echo and noise cancellation technologies, including the company’s Clear Voice Capture (CVC). The device also integrates CSR’s FastStream, a low latency high-quality music and voice CODEC, and supports Bluetooth v2.1 EDR of the Bluetooth specification for simple secure pairing and lower power consumption, the company said.
CSR’s solution is available in Q1 2009 and includes BC5120, BCSM application software, a hardware development board and a software development kit (SDK)
